LUBBOCK (AP) – The Texas Tech Red Raiders have dismissed linebacker Daniel Cobb from the team after he was arrested and charged with felony burglary.
Red Raiders spokesman Blayne Beal says Cobb was dismissed for violating unspecified team rules.
However, online booking records show the junior from Killeen Ellison was arrested Sunday and charged with burglary of a habitation. Conviction of the second-degree felony charge is punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
According to a Lubbock police report reviewed by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, an officer responding to a 5:15 p.m. Sunday burglary call found evidence of a forced entry into the apartment and Cobb assaulting the occupant.
Cobb started seven games last season and made 70 tackles, the third-best total on the team.
