DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – As North Texas drivers were out fighting rush hour traffic, members of Dallas Fire Rescue were out battling a 3-alarm fire.
The blaze destroyed a unit at the Birchbrook II Condominiums, near Greenville Avenue and Lovers Lane. The condo complex is near the Southern Methodist University campus.
An entire building, containing four condos, is now gone. Fire officials say most of the damage happened when fire weakened the roof and caused a roof-mounted air conditioning unit to fall in.
One man, who lived in a condo across from the fire, told KRLD NewsRadio 1080, “My neighbors tried to wake me up this morning… or were waking me up this morning telling me there was a fire.”
Several SMU students reportedly lived in the condo where the fire started, but were not at home at the time.
No one was injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
