DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - What began with a man flagging down Dallas police officers ended with the discovery of a dead child.
Now, Dallas police say the death of a 1-year-old boy at an apartment complex was no accident.
Just before rush hour on Thursday afternoon, the child’s father flagged down an officer on Singleton Boulevard, and told him that his wife had called and said his son was dead.
Police say the officer followed the man to the Highland Road Village Apartments, along Wyoming Street at the intersection of Cockrell Hill Road in West Oak Cliff. When the men arrived at the apartment, the officer confirmed that the baby was dead.
Residents at the apartment complex near Mountainview College say they are saddened to hear that the baby boy may have accidentally drowned in the bathtub.
Marilynn Franklin lives in the complex, and said that the news hit everyone hard. “It’s very sad. This right here is something that will take a while to get over. Not just me, but this whole apartment complex. You see people out here, they aren’t out here just to see what happened, they’re out here out of concern.”
Thursday night, Dallas police detectives were still interviewing witnesses about what happened. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
Police arrested the 1-year-old boy’s mother, later identified as 25-year-old Chloe Menager. She was at home with the boy when everything happened. Menager has been charged with capital murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. No other names have been released in this case.
