DALLAS (CBSDFW) -The Master” stars Joaquin Phoenix as Freddy Quell, a man who returns from World War II and joins a Scientology-type cult, led by Philip Seymour Hoffman. It’s written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who brought us “Boogie Nights” and “There Will Be Blood,” so Oscar hopes for this film area already high.

Jeremy Renner was originally slated to play Freddy Quell, but was later replaced by Joaquin Phoenix. Paul Thomas Anderson says that Joaquin showed up on the set in character, and stayed that way for 3 straight months.
