BALTIMORE (CBS SPORTS) - The end of the Patriots-Ravens game featured a crazy-close kick from rookie Justin Tucker, a game-winning field goal that snuck in by the tiniest of margins. The referees made a quick ruling that Tucker’s kick was good, therefore giving the Ravens the win, and as everyone was rolling off the field.
Bill Belichick decided that he wasn’t convinced about the legitimacy of the kick.
What resulted was an incident that’s all but guaranteed to get Belichick a hefty fine from the league office, as he was caught on camera accosting a referee at midfield.
The NFL is already cheesed at coaches for berating and bullying the refs this season. And you know they’re just itching to nail someone to the wall and prove a point about making sure coaches play ball with the policy of being nice to the replacement refs. Belichick’s incident provides a perfect opportunity to do just that.
If John Fox and Jack Del Rio were going to get hit with $20,000 for verbally going after the officials on the sideline, it’s quite possible that Belichick will get tagged with something larger for physically placing his hands on a referee after the game ended.
