COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBSDFW/AP) - A United States Air Force Academy cadet found dead Friday morning on the famous mountainside campus has been identified as a 22-year-old senior from Dallas.
The Academy announced Monday Cadet 1st Class Matthew Patrick of Dallas was found unconscious Friday morning before being transported to Penrose Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, where he later died.
Patrick, a senior Aeronautical Engineering major, was a Dallas native.
Fellow cadets were notified of the death Friday during their lunch hour.
“The Academy family is deeply saddened by the death of one of our own. Our heart-felt condolences go out to the family and friends of our cadet,” Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, Superintendent of the Air Force Academy, said in a statement. “Our Air Force family is grieving this loss, and we are committed to helping the family through this extremely difficult time.”
The cause of death remains under investigation. No other details have been released by the Academy.
Patrick is survived by his mother, father and sister.
