DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – One woman was shot during a home invasion in the Red Bird area of Oak Cliff.

The incident happened sometime overnight into the early morning hours, at the Hampton Terrace Apartments, off Highway 67 and Hampton.

The woman was shot in the leg during the home invasion that involved an unknown number of suspects.

Another apartment resident said she isn’t surprised.

“Home invasions are bad over here. It happens often,” she said. “But this is the first time that it just actually ended with someone injured.”

The resident said apartment managers are diligent in keeping the area safe, but it’s a challenge.

“Back there in that unit it’s so far off from everything else it’s hard for people to see what’s going on,” the woman said of the area where the shooting took place.

The injured woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital. Her condition isn’t known.

Dallas police continue to search for the shooter.
