FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Funeral arrangements for Sgt. 1st Class Riley Stephens, who was killed in a gun battle in Afghanistan on September 28, have been set. His family announced that funeral arrangements will be on Sunday, October 7, at 2 p.m. at the Tolar Baptist Church, 400 Tolar Highway.

The funeral procession will leave Tolar at about 3 p.m. and will travel east on Highway 377 through Granbury, then east on Interstate 20 to reach the Dallas Fort-Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie. The burial will begin at about 5 p.m.

Sgt. Stephens was deployed to fight the war on terror five times, and volunteered for deployment two more times. On Wednesday, the entire town of Tolar, population 688, turned out for a candlelight vigil to remember the decorated soldier, who had received a purple heart and two bronze stars from the military.

Sgt. Stephens body will arrive at the Cleburne airport at 10 a.m. on Saturday.  Visitation is scheduled that afternoon from 2-8 p.m. at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.
