ARLINGTON (AP) – The Texas Rangers are carrying 11 pitchers on their roster for their win-or-go-home wild-card game against Baltimore.
Ryan Dempster is the only rotation member not on the 25-man roster the Rangers set for Friday night’s game. Dempster started the regular-season finale Wednesday.
If the two-time defending AL champion Rangers beat Baltimore, they would advance to the AL division series against the New York Yankees and then get to reshuffle their roster before that series starts Sunday.
Yu Darvish starts against the Orioles, and has pitched into at least the seventh inning in his last nine games. But Texas manager Ron Washington has 10 pitchers to pick from when Darvish needs relief.
The Rangers have three catchers, six infielders and five outfielders available against the Orioles.
