WYLIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Wylie have arrested an 18-year-old pickup truck driver and his 17-year-old passenger for running into a 13-year-old pedestrian along the side of the road. The incident happened just after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday in the 500 block of West Brown Street. The driver was identified as Jake Shockley of Dallas.
According to Chief John Duscio with the Wylie Police Department, Shockley was behind the wheel of his gray GMC pickup truck, traveling westward along West Brown Street with two passengers. They saw two boys walking along the side of the roadway and wanted to scare them, Duscio said. One of the passengers — identified as 17-year-old Isaac Holland Sanchez of Garland — opened the truck door and yelled at the boys.
When the group in the truck looked back, they noticed that the two boys were “gesturing,” said Duscio. This is when Shockley allegedly put his truck in reverse and backed into the 13-year-old victim, knocking him to the ground. The young victim was still on the ground — surrounded by a group of people — when Wylie Fire-Rescue and the Wylie Police Department arrived on the scene.
The 13-year-old was transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. He is said to be stable.
Shockley and Sanchez were both arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Duscio said police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a factor in this incident. The second passenger has only been identified as a female. She is said to have called 911 when the accident happened and was not taken into custody.
