Son Of Murdered Pastor Says Father Had No Enemies
FOREST HILL (CBSDFW.COM) – The pastor of the Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church died inside the church he founded, fighting off an attacker who beat him with an electric guitar.
Danny Kirk Sr. was working inside the church when the suspect crashed his car into the building and then beat him to death.
Kirk’s 17-year-old son, Danny Jr., describes his father as a strong man of faith.
“Firm believer in God, and I know where he’s at. That’s why I’m, not really too choked up right now cause I know where he’s going, and I’m just going to hold up and hold things down for him.”
Police arrived within three minutes of the 911 call, where the secretary told police a man had broken into the church. As she hid in the office, police said the attacker used a guitar to beat and kill Kirk Sr. and injure a maintenance employee.

Police subdued the suspect with a stun gun, only to notice minutes later he wasn’t breathing. He died later at a hospital.
As news of Kirk’s death spread, church members flooded the scene, some of them rushing past police tape. Hundreds later gathered in another church next door, meeting with police, and praying for the Kirk family.
“It’s just me and momma now,” says Kirk’s son. “So, we’re going to be together a lot more now.”
