FOREST HILL (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Officer has released the name of the man who died in police custody after ramming his car into the wall of a North Texas church and then fatally beating the pastor.
Thirty-three-year-old Derrick Birdow died Monday after being found unresponsive in the back of a patrol car.
Forest Hill Police Chief Dan Dennis says officers arrived at Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church to find Birdow assaulting the Rev. Danny Kirk Sr. with an electric guitar.

Officers used a Taser to subdue Birdow, handcuffed him and put him in a police car.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released Birdow’s cause of death.
It’s unclear if Birdow knew the pastor or attended the church.
