I have a couple of friends who, each day this month, are posting to their Facebook pages another thing about which they’re thankful.

Well, that inspired me. It got me thinking about the multitude of blessings in my own life: healthy children, a wonderful husband, food to eat, a roof over my head…I almost didn’t know where to start.

Until the exterminator arrived at our house today to confirm that the recent overwhelming stench in our house was not an invisible something my kids had inadvertently tracked inside, but a RAT that had died somewhere within the walls of our home.

Not cute fuzzy little squirrel, not teeny little mouse, but a rat. R-A-T. It’s something of an understatement to say the “ick” factor for me is just off the charts.

So… tomorrow begins the process of trying to find said disgusting rodent and setting traps in the event he has any friends. In the meantime, I have to figure out a way to get rid of the god-awful stink, which tends to get worse in the heat of the day.

Which brings me back to the many things for which I’m thankful. In addition to being sincerely thankful for my family, friends, health, and a million other things—I’m unbelievably thankful that this rat didn’t die in my walls in August.
