DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Denton Fire Department is accustomed to working together to combat the many challenges they face. But today, they rallied together in support of one of their own – a brother firefighter who is battling cancer.
Several members of the department gathered at the Central Fire Station to have their heads shaved and show their ongoing support for Michael Bell, a 19-year veteran who is fighting gliosarcoma brain cancer.
Bell was diagnosed with brain cancer just over a year ago and has undergone four surgeries, several rounds of radiation, and is currently awaiting the results from his fourth round of chemotherapy.
The event was held to let Mike shave the heads of his fellow firefighters and hopefully bring a smile to his face and lift up his spirits as he continues with his recovery.
Additional events have been scheduled to help raise funds for Bell, including a motorcycle ride and bowling tournament. A bank account has also been setup in his name at the Aubrey Branch of Denton Area Teachers Credit Union.
