Whether you’ve reached the end of your rope or merely the end of your week, welcome to Whitt’s End:

*In 1989 Jimmy Johnson took over a Dallas Cowboys team that was 3-13 the year before. His first Dallas team included Michael Irvin, Herschel Walker, Mark Tuinei, Nate Newton, Too Tall Jones, Jim Jeffcoat, Ken Norton and Everson Walls, and was quarterbacked by Troy Aikman. Over his first 32 games he went 8-24. In 2010 Jason Garrett took over a Dallas Cowboys team was 1-7 after a 45-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers. His first Dallas team included Marion Barber, Jason Witten, Roy Williams, DeMarcus Ware, Alan Ball and Igor Olshansky and was quarterbacked by Jon Kitna. Over his first 32 games he went 16-16. Draw your own conclusions.

*Texas A&M fans are really puffing out their shaved heads and looking for apologies from doubters in the wake of quarterback Johnny Manziel making them relevant. But after the Aggies lose to Alabama Saturday they’ll be 4-3 in the SEC. Is that really any reason to be serving crow? And, by the way, “Johnny Football” is one of the dumbest, most unimaginative nicknames ever bestowed upon a really exciting player. What, “Johnny Human” was already taken? After watching him play try “Johnny Juke.” Yeah, much better.

*Stat that will bring a smile to Mavs fans: Through 6 games with the Clippers Lamar Odom is averaging 1.8 points and 2.2 rebounds on 22%-shooting. Hard to fathom, but he’s even worse than he was in Dallas last season.

*Most satisfying aspects to the Presidential Election: 1. The right guy won; 2. Watching all my old, white grumpy neighbors trudge out into their yards and yank up their Romney signs.

*The video of the 9-year-old girl – Sam – out-running boys on the football field is mesmerizing. So amazing that it makes you watch close to see if it’s somehow fake. Appears real. And really cool.

*The Eagles led the NFL with 50 sacks last season. This year they have 11. Only the 1-8 Jaguars have fewer.

*I know the weather is killing – literally – the Northeast right now with Sally followed by a snowstorm, but there isn’t a better place on Earth to live than north Texas in late October/early November. Temps in the 70s with low humidity and little or no wind. It’s going to be 80 today. On November 9.

*The Mavs (without Dirk Nowitzki) are 4-1 and the Lakers (with 4 Hall of Famers) are 1-4. Yep, I woulda lost that best.

*Want the real truth and insight about the Jerry Jones-Jimmy Johnson relationship. I recommend these two books: Stars ‘n Strife by Mike Fisher; and The ‘Boys Are Back by yours truly. Enjoy!

*Never understood the guy who promotes a web site that somehow boasts YouTube videos as his “unique content.” Internet aggregators are a nickel a dozen these days.

*Mark Saturday night, Dec. 8 on your social calendar. It’s 105.3 The Fan’s 4th birthday party, better known as Fanniversary. Tickets are free, but you have to have a ticket. Print one out at, or hit me up at a broadcast. It’s 4 parties in 1, featuring Club New School, Elf & Slater’s Beach Party, Camp GBag and, of course, the RAGE Corral with Texas Hold ‘Em, gun fighting, whiskey shots, saloon girls and a mechanical bull. You’re invited. And so are our critics – you know who you are – who kept predicting we’d flip formats by sundown and never see a 3rd birthday, much less a 4th. Get your free tickets here.

*This weekend? Saturday I’m off with RAGE to Philly. After ringing the Liberty Bell and running up the steps to Rocky’s statue we’ll eat some prime cheesesteak Saturday night, then attend Cowboys-Eagles Sunday afternoon. Monday we’ll do the show from the studios of WIP and fly back to Dallas early Tuesday. Don’t be a stranger.
