FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A 2-vehicle crash near the area where Interstate 20 breaks away from Loop 820 in East Fort Worth sends a pickup truck into a pond, trapping 2 people inside.

The accident happened just after 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the 5300 block of Collett Little Road.

Fort Worth Police say the two vehicles collided in the intersection of Collett Little and the southbound Loop 820 service road.  The collision sent the pickup into a nearby fenced-in pond in front of the Amelia Parc senior living facility.

When officers first arrived they found people on scene trying to dive down and free a woman and young child from inside the submerged vehicle. Forrest Hill police were speaking with the driver as her truck sank 8-9 feet into the water.  The pond is believed to be 15 feet deep.

The Fort Worth Fire Department says the truck was filled with clothing and other items which hindered the rescue.  Ultimately, the Fort Worth Fire Department water rescue team found both the woman and child and began CPR.

The child, a 22-month-old girl, was transported to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where she later died.  The mother was also transported to a Fort Worth hospital and pronounced dead.

The driver, passenger and two people who tried to assist in the rescue were also all treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries.
