CHICAGO (CBS SPORTS) - The Seattle Mariners are weighing a run at superstar outfielder Josh Hamilton, team president Chuck Armstrong confirmed. Though he cautioned that they are still formulating their free-agency plans.
“[GM Jack Zduriencik] is looking at it,” Armstrong said. “We are going to have more money to spend. And we do need offense.”
The Mariners are still mulling Hamilton and other things, so it’s very early. Zduriencik said at the GM meetings that he’s looking mostly at “corner” players. “[Zduriencik] hasn’t given me a proposal yet, so I can’t gauge our level of interest yet,” Armstrong said, speaking of Hamilton.
The Mariners’ offense was the worst in the American League in 2012.
