DALLAS (AP) – Federal officials have cited a Dallas-area contractor with six serious safety violations after a tower crane collapse on the University of Texas at Dallas campus killed two workers.
The collapse happened July 7 as the crane was being dismantled on a windy day.
In a statement Tuesday, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Harrison Hoist Inc. of Grand Prairie failed to address hazards associated with the wind and weather and those inherent in dismantling the 150-foot crane.
OSHA proposed penalties totaling $29,400 and gave Harrison Hoist 15 days to comply, contest the findings or ask for a conference with OSHA officials.
Calls to Harrison Hoist weren’t answered late Tuesday.
