AUSTIN (AP) - Texas troopers will be out in force during the Thanksgiving holiday period looking for drunken drivers and other highway safety violators.
The Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday urged all travelers to use caution when driving, don’t text while behind the wheel and wear safety belts.
DPS during last year’s Thanksgiving weekend arrested 393 people for driving while intoxicated, issued more than 7,400 speeding citations and handed out more than 900 safety restraint citations.
AAA estimates nearly 3.3 million Texans will be on the road during the Wednesday through Sunday holiday period and most will travel in cars and other highway vehicles.
