DISD Searching For New Chief Of Staff After Newly Appointed Candidate Changes His Mind

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Two weeks after accepting the Chief of Staff position for the Dallas Independent School District, Leonardo Caballero has changed his mind.

Caballero informed DISD Superintendent Mike Miles that he cannot accept the position due to personal and family reasons. Caballero was set to start the position on December 10, at an annual salary of $180,000.

“While I am grateful for the opportunity and understand that you have acted upon my acceptance, I know that sometimes one has to do what is best for family. Therefore, I am hoping you will understand my position,” said Caballero in a letter. (You can download the full letter by clicking here.)

According to the DISD website, the Chief of Staff works closely with the Superintendent to facilitate the work of the Cabinet members, ensure Cabinet members are working systemically and finishing major projects on time.

“Mr. Cabellero would have made a great addition to the cabinet and to the district but I certainly understand that family comes first and I wish him well,” said Miles.

Miles is expected to fill all open positions on his cabinet in the next few weeks, including a Chief Financial Officer and a Chief of Technology.
