Really Warm Weekend for North Texas! Drought gets worse & where’s the cold?
WARM WEATHER INTO THE WEEKEND!
Temperatures continue to warm into the weekend with many areas flirting with 80 degrees on Saturday, Sunday and Monday! It will be breezy with a mix of sun and clouds but very warm for the start of December.
Here are the 3pm Temperatures from Thursday. Average high for this time of year is 61.
A cold front will arrive Monday night into Tuesday. This will provide a small chance of rain, but coverage looks to be limited and any shower or thunderstorm will be short in duration.
Here’s a look at the front coming thru Tuesday on the GFS Forecast model.

WHERE’S THE COLD AIR?
With such a warm end to November and start to December, a lot of people have been asking me where’s the cold air? Right now it is stuck up in Canada. And it really looks to stay stuck up there for the next 14 days. One of the main reasons is a huge trough of low pressure off the west coast. Here is that trough.
This trough with a series of upper level lows spinning within in, keeps the cold air bottled up in Canada. The jet stream is not allowing for that cold air to come south. There is plenty of cold air though. Here’s a look at the 3pm Thursday temperatures in Canada. Brrrrrrrrrrrr…
The drought continues to worsen across North Texas. The latest drought monitor was released today and more of North Texas is in the Extreme Category, which is the second worst category of drought classification. Since the start of summer we have really seen a drop off in rainfall. I want to show you the Drought Monitor from May 1 compared to the current Drought Monitor for November 29th. Note how on May 1, we were in great shape. Ever since then, we have fallen back into drought.
