DENTON (AP) - Karol Gruszecki scored 17 points and Jordan Reves added seven points and 13 rebounds to lead Texas-Arlington to a 72-59 victory against North Texas on Wednesday night.
Greg Gainey had 11 points for the Mavericks (3-1).
Alzee Williams scored 14 points and Tony Mitchell had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Mean Green (3-4), who shot just 31 percent (18 for 58) in the second half.
Roger Franklin of North Texas tied the game at 43-43 with a layup at 15:01, and the Mean Green did not make another field goal for six minutes. In that span, UTA went on a 13-7 run and led by 12 points, 66-54, with 4:01 remaining.
Mitchell’s layup with two minutes left was North Texas’ only field goal in the final eight minutes.
