QUINLAN (CBSDFW.COM) – A Dallas County Sheriff’s Department deputy died Monday night after a crash in Hunt County in which a 15-year-old family member was at the wheel.
Kenneth Donnell Riggins, a 20-year veteran with the sheriff’s department, was killed after a pickup truck in which he was riding crashed on Hunt County Road 2538, near Quinlan, around 8:30 p.m., according to DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel.
The female driver lost control and crashed into a tree. Deputy Riggins was taken to Hunt County Regional Medical Center in Greenville, but later died.
The 15-year-old had only minor injuries.
There’s been no word on charges and no word at this point on the exact relationship between the deputy and the teen.
A July 2012 memo from the sheriff’s department honored Deputy Riggins for 20 years of service to the county and indicated he worked in the executive administration office.
