DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - More than a dozen families in northeast Dallas were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs after a tragic fire ripped through the Las Cascadas apartment complex shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Monday night. The complex is located in the 9300 block of Skillman Street.
The flames were very stubborn, and emergency crews were actually called to the fire twice. Dallas Fire-Rescue had safely extinguished the blaze and left the scene, but had to return at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning because the fire rekindled.
Many of the apartment building residents were not home at the time of the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
With just two weeks left until Christmas, the families impacted by the fire suffered serious losses. According to the American Red Cross, a total of 15 families were affected by the fire, and 12 of those families lost everything inside of their apartment units. They are getting assistance with groceries, clothing, coats and a new place to live — the essentials.
