MELISSA (AP) – The former mayor of a North Texas town is expected to plead guilty to soliciting a bribe from a real estate broker on a land deal.
David Dorman is scheduled to appear Monday afternoon in federal court in Sherman. Prosecutors in November said Dorman had agreed to plead guilty to one count of mail fraud.
Dorman was the mayor of Melissa for a decade.
Documents filed by prosecutors say Dorman collected $30,000 in three separate payments from a real estate broker eying 33 acres of land in 2006 or 2007. Authorities say Dorman pushed to annex the land so it could be improved with water and sewer lines. They say he received three payments of $10,000.
Melissa is about 35 miles northeast of Dallas.
