This has been just what we needed to help out with the drought. Widespread areas across North Texas saw 2″ to 4″ of rain.
Here are some of the rainfall totals as of 3pm this afternoon.
BELOW IS A LIST OF THE LAST TWO BIG RAIN EVENTS IN NORTH TEXAS…
We see rain events like this only a handful of times a year.
WHEN RAIN ENDS…
Light to moderate rain will continue thru the next several hours with a decrease in coverage later this evening and overnight. By tomorrow morning there will still be a few spotty showers left over, but most of the rain will have tapered off.
There will be some breaks in the clouds tomorrow allowing for a pretty nice day with a high temperatures around 62 degrees.
Friday will be the warmest day of the week with high temperatures around 70 degrees and breezy south/southwest winds.
STRONG COLD FRONT ON SATURDAY…
A strong cold front will arrive during the day on Saturday. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible especially in the morning on Saturday. Behind the front temps will fall into the 40s by late afternoon on Saturday.
STAYS COLD NEXT WEEK…
On the first day of this month, I mentioned that we should get ready for a cold snap around the middle of the month. All of next week looks like we will see below average temperatures. Highs will only be in the 30s and 40s starting Sunday thru Friday of next week.
There are ingredients on the table that could lead to some wintry precipitation next week. Yesterday, I mentioned the possibility of freezing rain on either Sunday or Monday depending on the depth of the cold air and the location of an upper level disturbance. The models are a little less aggressive with this possibility today compared to yesterday. The possibility of wintry weather will likely fluctuate with each model run. I mention this threat of wintry weather to provide a heads up to everyone to stay up to date on the forecast as we head into next week. There are no certainties that we will get wintry weather, but when I see the items on the map that could lead to it, I like to make everyone aware.
