STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) – Marcus Smart and Markel Brown each scored 14 points, and Le’Bryan Nash added 13 as Oklahoma State defeated TCU 63-45 Wednesday night.
Philip Jurick grabbed 10 rebounds for Oklahoma State (11-3, 1-1 Big 12), which owned a 40-17 rebounding edge. Nash, Brown and Kamari Murphy each had six rebounds. Brown also had five assists.
TCU’s Garlon Green led all scorers with 20 points. Kyan Anderson, who entered averaging 12.5 points per game, finished with 10, all in the second half. TCU entered the game averaging 57 points per start, lowest among Big 12 teams.
Smart’s lay-up in traffic gave the Cowboys a 23-13 advantage with 7 minutes remaining in the first half, and Phil Forte’s 3-pointer in transition with 3:33 left put the hosts up 32-17. Nash’s turnaround jumper with just over a minute left pushed the lead to 15.
TCU’s Charles Hill hit a 40-footer at the halftime buzzer to push TCU over the 20-point mark. Five times this season OSU opponents have failed to reach 20 points in the opening half.
The two teams combined for 21 turnovers through 20 minutes, 11 by the Cowboys, who made up for it by shooting 62-percent from the floor.
Back-to-back field goals by Brown pushed the lead to 50-30 with 12:14 remaining. TCU got no closer than 14 the rest of the way. The Horned Frogs hit 17 of 47 shots for a dismal 36.2 percent.
The teams combined for 45 turnovers, 24 by the Cowboys.
Nash, averaging 13.8 points per game, had not scored in double figures the last three games, including a 6-point effort in a loss at Kansas State last Saturday. The 6-foot-7 forward scored his 11th point just a minute into the second half on Wednesday.
