DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The FBI is asking for the public’s help in figuring out what an infamous serial killer was doing in North Texas last year. Israel Keyes, who confessed to as many as eight murders across the country, spent time in Azle, Aledo and Cleburne in 2012.
The FBI says Keyes admitted to as much before killing himself in a jail cell in Anchorage in December of 2012. Agents say that Keyes developed a pattern in his cross country killing spree. He would rent a car and committ random murders in isolated areas.
And authorities say he rented a car in North Texas in Feburary of 2012, while he was still active, and admitted to becoming stuck in a muddy rural area here.
Serial Killer Expert M. William Phelps, the host of Investigation Discoveries’s “Dark Minds” tells KRLD he believes that Keyes was responsible for some murders in Texas:
Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies will be assisting the FBI in identifying if Keyes might’ve been in their area when an unsolved murder was committed. They will start by hanging flyers in their jurisdiction today.
Keyes was said to be driving a rented blue KIA Soul during the time. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
