DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Authorities unsealed a federal indictment revealing that 20 North Texas residents have been indicted in a large-scale marijuana trafficking conspiracy.

More than half of the defendants are in custody after a multi-agency operation this week.

Federal and state search warrants resulted in the seizure of approximately 25 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, more than 600 marijuana plants, 10 vehicles and five firearms.

Federal prosecutors in Dallas on Friday announced the indictments on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute the drugs. Two of the suspects, Sylvespa Adams, 25, and Alma Diane Smith, 30, were also charged with conspiring to commit money laundering.

The indictment alleges that the two men conspired to conceal and disguise the nature, location, source and ownership of the drug proceeds.

If convicted the conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana count carries a statutory sentence of at least five years and up to 40 years in federal prison and a $5,000,000 fine. Upon conviction, the conspiracy to commit money laundering count carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine.
