BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - Tony Mitchell had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead North Texas to a 61-59 overtime victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday night.
The Mean Green’s Roger Franklin’s layup at the buzzer tied it at 53 in regulation.
Jordan Williams scored 14 points and Roger Franklin 12 for the Mean Green (8-12, 3-6), who had lost three of four coming in.
Greg Gantt led the Owls (10-10, 5-4) with 22 points, and Stefan Moody chipped in 12.
Florida Atlanta led 30-25 on Gantt’s two free throws 2:07 into the second half, but North Texas caught the Owls at 39-all on Tony Mitchell’s dunk with 7:48 left. It was close the rest of the way.
North Texas’ P.J. Hardwick made two free throws for a 55-53 advantage 21 seconds into overtime, and Florida Atlantic never caught up. Hardwick’s free throw with 21 seconds left gave North Texas the final margin.
