AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Top Texas Republicans are joining abortion opponents for an Austin rally marking the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision.
Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Attorney General Greg Abbott will headline an event at the state Capitol on Saturday.
Also appearing are the Roman Catholic Bishop of Austin, Joe Vasquez, and Texas Alliance for Life Executive Director Joe Pojman.
Organizers expect thousands for the rally, which will be proceeded by a short march.
The event comes a day after a rally at the National Mall in Washington that featured former Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum. Like Perry, Santorum unsuccessfully sought the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling, which legalized abortion.
