ST. LOUIS (CBS SPORTS) - For more than the past month, reports indicated that the St. Louis Cardinals were going to add Bengie Molina to their ballclub as the assistant hitting coach. On Monday, the move became official.
Obviously, adding an assistant hitting coach isn’t earth-shattering news, but this is a bit special because Molina will be coaching his younger brother, Yadier. “It’s going to be awesome. I can’t wait,” Yadier Molina told MLB.com. “Bengie is a great guy to have on your side. It’s going to be awesome. He knows about hitting, too. He’s going to be a good help for our team.”
Molina will be the assistant to new hitting coach John Mabry, who took over for now-Dodgers hitting coach Mark McGwire.
Bengie Molina last played in 2010 with the Texas Rangers, helping the team reach their first-ever World Series appearance.
