LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – A five-hour standoff at a Lewisville restaurant ended early Tuesday morning after the man, said to be a vehicle theft suspect, surrendered to police.
The incident began just before 1:00 a.m. inside of the IHOP restaurant located along Stemmons Freeway near Round Grove Road — not far from the Vista Ridge Mall.
Diners and employees overheard a conversation from the suspect, who was boasting about having stolen a vehicle. When police approached him, he fled into the restroom and told officers that he had a gun. He eventually made his way into the restaurant’s attic space.
Employees and patrons were safely removed from the restaurant. SWAT teams were deployed and the area around the restaurant was evacuated.
A negotiator was brought in to help convince the man to come out, which he finally did shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old David Lee Horton of Hurst. He was arrested on two warrants out of Plano for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, as well as a warrant for vehicle burglary out of Dallas County. Police also believe that he could be responsible for robberies in Lewisville and Trophy Club within the past few days. Authorities did locate a stolen truck in the restaurant’s parking lot.
