AUSTIN (AP) - University of Texas President Bill Powers is expected to unveil a long-awaited report Tuesday on how one of the country’s largest campuses can save money and concentrate efforts on teaching and research.

Texas higher education officials are under pressure from state lawmakers to streamline efficiency and cut costs where they can. The report to be released Tuesday looked at how the flagship campus of the University of Texas System can spend less. The report is also expected to address how school could create revenue, such as commercializing the results of research projects.

Texas lawmakers slashed nearly $1 billion from higher education in 2011 and are under pressure to reign in tuition costs. Some lawmakers want university funding to be tied in part to graduation rate.
