AUSTIN (AP) - Texas Comptroller Susan Combs is scheduled to testify in a state Senate budget hearing to explain her projection that the state has made a strong rebound from the recession.

The Texas Republican has estimated lawmakers will have $101 billion in state revenue to spend over the next two years. That’s about 12 percent higher than what she estimated for the current budget.

Lawmakers use the comptrollers’ figures as a starting point for writing the state budget.

Democrats have said the extra money should be used to roll back some of budget cuts made in 2011, including about $5.4 billion from public education. Republicans say the state should continue holding the line on spending.
