TERRELL (CBSDFW.COM) – A single-engine plane crashed Monday afternoon in field in Kaufman County, one person has been confirmed dead.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department says the aircraft went down south of I-20, just outside of Terrell – not far from the Terrell Municipal Airport.
Lt. Justin Lewis of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office says the crash was reported at about 4:25 p.m. Monday southwest of Terrell Municipal Airport.
Because the plane was consumed by fire after the crash, authorities do not know what type of aircraft it was or exactly how many people were on board.
Texas Department of Public Safety officers have secured the scene and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
Bradford says the person on board could not be immediately identified.
FAA spokesperson Lynn Lunsford said he doesn’t have any information yet on the type or size of the plane.
Lunsford did say the FAA believes that the pilot may have been performing aerobatics before the crash.
Terrell is about 15 miles east of Dallas.
