HOUSTON (AP) – Macy’s landmark downtown Houston store has made its last sale.
The 10-story Main Street retail fixture closed 66 years after it opened as the Foley’s department store.
By the time doors were locked for the last time, rugs were selling at a 75 percent discount and women’s wear was marked down 70 to 80 percent.
In 2000, Federated Department Stores rebranded Foley’s as Macy’s, another department store chain owned by Federated.
The Cincinnati-based chain, now called Macy’s Inc., announced in January that it would close the store when its lease expires this spring. The owners plan to demolish the building to make way for new retail development.
