GUNNISON, Colo. (CBSDFW.COM) – Two children from Irving are dead following a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on a snowy mountain highway in Colorado.

The Colorado State Patrol says the crash happened Saturday morning near Gunnison, Colorado.  The driver of a 2008 Chevy Cobalt lost control of her car and hit an oncoming car.

The cobalt’s driver, 22-year-old Jamie Dowling of Irving was not wearing her seat belt.  She was transported to a Gunnison-area hosptial, where she was treated for what the highway patrol described as serious injuries.

A 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl were also in Dowling’s car. They had seat belts on, but the boy died at the scene of the crash. The girl was also taken to the hospital in Gunnison, where she later died.

The driver of the second car had only minor injuries.

Snow was falling at the time of the crash and weather is considered a factor.  The crash remains under investigation.
