FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Feeling stressed? You might try boxing.

Boxing can burn up to 900 calories an hour. Friends Lauren and Katie have been at it three months and already see a big difference.

The sport has long been co-ed. But increasingly women are putting on the gloves to release tension.

Marchica and Kaufman enjoy the class to just get away from work. “We just love this class – we come with our friends and work it out. We’re both in sales so we can get a crazy day — so we just let it all out,” said Marchica. Added Kaufman, “It gives a little bit of jolt of energy out some aggression that I didn’t know that I had. My arms have definitely toned up.”

David Douglas is a boxing fitness trainer and he says “It’s great for blasting away anxiety from your daily activities – at work especially. When you’re hitting something I tell them to envision something or someone on the bag.”

But it’s not fighting, It’s fitness boxing and brings a lot of the same benefits as competitive classes.

“It’s pretty basic but the work out by itself is pretty intense,” says Douglas.

Within three to six months clients can lose as much as 10 pounds. They have increased flexibility, better balance and most of all…Less stress.

Douglas says one of the reasons for many women taking the class…”They’re just a lot more relaxed.”

Boxing also boosts stamina and confidence.
