Cindy Sherman On Exhibit At Dallas Museum
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Cindy Sherman is widely recognized as one of the most important contemporary artists of the last forty years, and is one of the most influential artist working exclusively with photography. Gabriel Ritter, The Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, shared with CBS 11 some of the messages behind the artist.
“The exhibition show is really one make-up artist, one model and one photographer but they’re all the same person and that’s Cindy Sherman.” Every picture is of Sherman, but they are not self-portraits. The exhibition shows the range and evolution of her career. Initially she only used make-up to transform her face from being very old to very young.
“There’s 157 works in this exhibition. They range from her very earliest college works from the mid 1970′s until 2011 with her most recent work, part of the fashion series where she’s dressed head to toe in Channel.”
The Dallas Museum of Art is also rewarding you simply for participating in this and other exhibitions. By becoming a DMA Friend you can receive rewards. This, like Free Admission, is another idea from Max Anderson, Director for the DMA. “The more you connect with us the more points you earn and those points can be redeemed for lots of things. Free exhibition tickets to our Chagall exhibition or new Cindy Sherman exhibition, free parking, discounts in store and restaurant and other types of experiences that are even more exciting like a tour of the store rooms or for the grand prize spend the night. We’re excited to build a new currency which is a currency not of cash but of participation.”
Cindy Sherman is on exhibit through June 9th.
