DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A new study shows that adults are actually worse than teens when it comes to texting behind the wheel.

The study was conducted by Dallas-based carrier AT&T, which has been spearheading a campaign to end distracted driving. The company surveyed more than 1,000 drivers and found that nearly half of all adults admit to texting on the road. This is compared to 43 percent of teens who confess to texting while driving.

More than 98 percent of guilty adults said that texting while driving is wrong, but that they do it anyway.

In addition to the AT&T campaign, there is also an extensive national push to ban distracted driving. It is already illegal in 39 states and the District of Columbia, and some Texas lawmakers are fighting for a similar ban statewide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that over nine people are killed, and 1,000 more injured each day due to crashes caused by distracted driving.
