DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A big name is coming to Dallas next week to inspire members of our nation’s future. Legendary comedian and actor Bill Cosby will be speaking to the class of 2013 at Paul Quinn College during the school’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4.
“This is such a fitting conclusion to the Quinnite Nation collegiate experience for this class,” said college president Michael J. Sorrell, noting that the students this year all made the choice to stick with the school during its most transformative years ever. “These students battled landfills, witnessed the demolition of 15 abandoned buildings, the transformation of the football field to an organic farm, the renovation of the dorm, dining hall, fitness center, student lounge, classrooms, the Grand Lounge, and more.”
“They deserve to have one of the most revered men in the world as their commencement speaker,” Sorrell added.
Cosby was selected to speak at the ceremony because of his wholesome social comedy, thought-provoking world insights and undeniable passion for education. “It’s always a pleasure to see those fresh faces of the new graduates,” he has said about delivering commencement speeches. “It’s also fun to notice the relieved smiles of the parents who are wondering, ‘Are they going to be all right?’ The unanswered questions are now really directed at them.”
Cosby earned his master’s degree and doctorate degree in education from Temple University, and has received honorary degrees from over a dozen different colleges across the country. He is now back on a comedy tour after finishing his latest book, “I Didn’t Ask to Be Born (But I’m Glad I Was).”
Paul Quinn College will be opening up the ceremony to all North Texans who wish to attend and see Cosby speak. Tickets to the commencement are free and can be picked up between April 30 and May 2 at the school’s business office. Click here for more information about how to get tickets.
