DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Today the Dallas Opera proudly announced, Emmanuel Villaume as the new music director . He’s only the third person ever to be named to that position in the 56 year history of the company.
The French-born conductor has a passion for the classics as well as the more exotic. “You need to have been confronted to extremely complex scores to do justice to the great classics, and you need to have that understanding of the great classics to do the best you can with a new score that has never been performed. It’s fresh to be confronted to various experiences.”
General Director and CEO Keith Cerny took a year to find the perfect fit. “In my experience it’s actually quite rare to find one person who is equally strong in conducting classics as the more exotic and contemporary. To find someone who can embrace both is difficult and that is front and center of what I was looking for in a musical director.”
Maestro Villaume brings with him to Dallas energy, charisma and a passion for opera. He will conduct the upcoming season opener CARMEN, October 25th through November 10th. For ticket information www.dallasopera.org
