DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A 21-year-old man is behind bars this morning after trying to pass himself off as a member of Dallas Fire Rescue.

Police say Terrence King had the appearance of being a first responder when he showed up at a firehouse in Plano dressed in a Dallas Fire Rescue uniform.

Plano firefighters talked with King for a while, but became suspicious when he asked if he could ride along with them. One telephone call to DFR made it pretty clear King was not a firefighter; the next call was to Dallas police.

King was arrested, not for impersonating a firefighter, but for theft. It turns the fire gear King had on was real. Dallas fire officials are now trying to figure out how the man got the uniform from fire station #18 in downtown Dallas.

King, a resident of Murphy, remains in jail on a $1,000 bond.
