CORINTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - Audio recordings may help convict a North Texas pastor of sexual misconduct charges involving a girl under the age of 18.

Police say Jeff Williams, the pastor at The Church of Corinth, recorded the conversations in which he tried to get that girl to take off her clothes.

“The audio tape is very disturbing,” says Captain Greg Wilkerson of the Corinth Police Department. “The tape, we believe, came from Pastor Williams, and we believe he’s the one who recorded the event.”

Police arrested Williams on Wednesday. He’s charged with Attempted Sexual Performance of a Child, a third degree felony, In the arrest affidavit, police detail reports sent from Child Protective Services investigating sex abuse claims against the church leader. The claims came from someone with five audio recordings reportedly of Williams trying to persuade the girl for two hours to strip for him. Police say Williams is heard on the recordings telling the girl he wants to see some “eye candy.”

Detectives found the girl and questioned her. Police say they do not believe she is connected to Williams through the church. Investigators are still looking for another teenager.

ARREST AFFIDAVIT FOR JEFFREY WILLIAMS:

“We do have information that’s come forward that we believe there could potentially be one other victim out there,” said Wilkerson. “We’ve confirmed one. We may have two. If there are others, come forward and talk to an investigator about what may have happened.”

A spokesman with the Church of Corinth issued this statement: “We have no knowledge of nor any reason to suspect any inappropriate behavior. We will cooperate with authorities.”

On the church’s Facebook page, many voiced support for the man known as Pastor Jeff, and challenged the accusations against him.

Williams has served as the lead pastor at the church for 14 years and lives in a home on church property.

Late Thursday, church leadership met to discuss Williams future with their congregation.

CBS 11 tried unsuccessfully to contact Williams and his attorney.
