ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman in Arlington was hit and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street on Tuesday night. The incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Collins Street, between Tharp Street and East Park Row Drive.

According to witnesses at the scene, the woman in her 50s was trying to walk across the roadway where there was no crosswalk. She was then struck by a car traveling in the northbound lanes of traffic. The woman was taken to the hospital, but later died from her injuries.

The driver was a man in his early 20s. He did stop his car and has been cooperating with authorities during their investigation. He is not expected to face any charges.

The identities of the victim and the driver have not yet been released.

In light of this fatal incident, the Arlington Police Department offered tips for pedestrians. First and foremost, it is important to only cross the street at marked crosswalks. Be sure to look both ways before crossing the street, and make eye contact with any nearby drivers, to make sure that they are aware of your presence. Also, use extra caution when walking along roadways at night.
