KANSAS (CBS NEWS) – Severe Storm chasers Brandon Ivey and Sean Casey used their specialized tornado intercept vehicle to film video from inside a Smith County, Kansas tornado on Monday.
The vehicle recorded wind speeds of up to 175 MPH before instruments were ripped off by the storm.
One of the vehicle’s doors and the top hatch were blow open during filming. The vehicle stayed on the ground.
Casey described the experience on KRLD.
Casey and Ivey were often seen on “Storm Chasers” a series that ran on Discovery Channel. Casey has been on the road for years, trying to record the inside of a tornado for a film that was released in 2011.
