Metro Just Missing Rain: you can see the rain-cooled environment in Sherman and Gainesville after a complex of storms rumbled through this morning. Here’s how the temps stacked up during the 9 o’clock hour.
The storms held together just north of the main Meteroplex and this last radar view taken around 9:30 AM shows the storm path. Once the main storm complex hit Bonham, it began to quickly dissipate in our stable environment over all of North Texas.
The trend today: the cloud cover from the storms mixes out fairly quickly and sunny skies will prevail. We’ll hit the lower and middle 90s while Breckenridge to Graham to Wichita Falls will top out near 100 degrees. Winds from the southeast will get breezy at times from 15-25 mph.
Late this afternoon and this evening we’ll be watching the dry line very closely for possible storm development. The chances for storms look small, but if they fire they will likely be severe with damaging winds and large hail. You can see how our FutureSky Forecast model depicts very isolated activity at 9 PM this evening in the image below. I’ve also plotted the Storm Prediction Center’s convective outlook for today and tonight below.
Overnight: another chance for storms in time for the Wednesday morning commute. It is possible that another complex of storms will develop overnight in Oklahoma and push into North Texas with the forecast steering winds coming in from the northwest. If the complex develops, the best chances to see anything will again be along the Red River counties. Locally heavy rainfall with rapid runoff will be the primary concern.
Wednesday Repeat: it should be a look-alike to today. Highs near 94 degrees under mostly sunny skies after morning clouds dissipate. A cold front from the north will bring storm chances during the overnight hours. And it’s looking like our best chance for rain in the Metroplex. Also, with a slight risk for severe storms for mainly northern parts of North Texas. The cold front should clear us during the early morning hours Thursday to usher in a beautiful afternoon with highs in the 80s.
