ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) — Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler will begin a rehab assignment at AA Frisco on Thursday night with the hope of joining the big league team on Sunday.
Kinsler has been out since May 18 with bruised ribs but suffered a minor setback described as a “stress reaction” by the team.
Kinsler went through a full on-field workout on Thursday, including batting practice. Team physician Dr. Keith Meister cleared Kinsler to return to action.
Kinsler will appear at DH on Thursday and will play at least two games at second base before returning.
In his absence, rookie Jurickson Profar has appeared in 19 games, primarily at second base, and is batting .265 with 2 HR and 6 RBI.
The team has not yet said if Profar will remain with the team or be demoted when Kinsler returns.
The team continues their 11-game homestand with four game sets against Toronto and Oakland.
