FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) – Tense moments Wednesday afternoon at the Sandy Oaks Apartments in the 1500 block of Sandy Lane in east Fort Worth. A crowd gathered quickly outside, and the residents were full of anger.

It’s what Ebony Dobbins said happened to her that started it all. “She just evicted me,” said Dobbins about her apartment manager. “She just put me out.” The 22-year-old said that she complained to the manager about her ceiling. Some of it caved in on her, she said, while she was cooking on Friday.

“I cannot stop shaking. I have a nervous condition in my neck from the roof falling on me,” said Dobbins. The complex claimed that the roof was fixed, but Dobbins wasn’t satisfied and kept complaining.

Late Wednesday, she claimed that the apartment manager’s boyfriend showed up angry and kicked her 2-month-old Yorkie to death. “I watched him kill my dog,” said Dobbins. “I feel some type of way — I’m hurt. I’m mad! I’m angry.”

Police later identified the man as 27-year-old Eric Nwankwo. Dobbins told authorities that he, acting in a rage, said, “I got something for all of you all. It is going down today!” The apartment manager said that she had no relation to the man, and that he did not live at the apartment complex. However, authorities later determined that he was, in fact, a resident there.

Once other residents caught wind of what she said was happening, they began to gather and police were called. Officers left after it appeared that the situation had calmed down. But it hadn’t.

While CBS 11 News was at the complex talking to Dobbins inside of her apartment, several children started screaming outside. Aequia McGrew, 10, ran inside claiming that she had been maced by the apartment manager. “I do nothing. She maced me. She maced her too,” said McGrew. “It burns.”

McGrew’s mother, Lakeyia Wiley, said that she is furious. “My child was not doing anything but standing out there. You come out there macing all these kids out there. You don’t do that.”

At that moment, the crowd outside grew larger and louder. The manager locked herself inside and refused to come out. Police and other first responders swarmed the apartment complex again, and at least one child was rushed to the hospital. CBS 11 News was asked to leave the complex, and the manager would not answer any questions.

Police arrested the man accused of killing the dog. He was found hiding inside of another apartment unit in the complex. He has been charged with cruelty to an animal.
